2.5/5 ★ – MechaniChris's review of Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge.
Sigh. Look, obviously I’ve played a lot of Mario games in the past year. When I started out, I thought it might be fun to play all the official mainline games, but then I thought I might want to try the Paper Mario’s too. Then I just kept adding and adding until the rules became arbitrary. And now here I am, logging Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge. If rock bottom exists for completionists, then I’m certainly getting close.
What do you expect? It’s fine. They’re all at least fine. Nintendo doesn’t really slap the Mario name on a game that isn’t mildly entertaining. It’s nearly identical to Mini-Land Mayhem, but much more convoluted because you need Amiibo’s to play it. It’s marketed as a free game, but it’s clearly not. At minimum it cost $15 for a single Amiibo, and in order to play the whole thing, you need to get like 10 Amiibos.
I did not get 10 Amiibos for this, but I did get 6, which is bad enough. I’ve safely played enough levels to know that I’m truly not missing anything with those last 4. And besides, how am I going to get a Donkey Kong Amiibo, huh? Cause I’ve looked!!
I’m so tired. Tired of these puzzle games, tired of Mario and his little mustache. I’m halfway through Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and it feels as if I may never reach the end. I just want to play something else. Anything else. Maybe it’s time to play all the Pokémon games? Surely they haven’t made that many…. Surely……..
