1.5/5 ★ – MechaniChris's review of Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code: Veronica.
I mean yikes. I’m surprised Survivor even got a sequel, but this thing is barely a game. It takes less than an hour to run through, but you only get so many continues, so if you die early, you’re basically screwed by the time you reach the final boss and you’ll have to start ALL over. Again, it’s only an hour, but it’s still annoying as hell.
Admittedly, the gameplay is a step up from the previous version. Plays more like Doom than whatever bizarre arcade style shooter they were going with before. But your character is far too slow and most of the rooms require you to flee rather than fight if you want to have enough health to face the boss.
Of course all of this is secondary to the main issue which is that this game adds absolutely nothing to the franchise. It’s literally the story of Code Veronica stripped down to the absolute bare bones, and then with Nemesis added in for no reason. It is completely contradictory to canon.
I would suggest that it was fine as a curiosity for those who want to experience a streamlined version of Code Veronica with more of a shooter play style, BUT there’s already a MUCH better game that gives you exactly that! RE Darkside Chronicles literally does this entire game but WAY better. If you want an arcade shooter in this world, skip the survivor series entirely and just play the Wii Chronicles games. You won’t be sorry.
