4/5 ★ – MechaniChris's review of Sonic 3D Blast: Flickies Island Director's Cut.

Turns out Sonic CAN be done well in 3D, provided it’s extremely limited in scope. I was going to skip this one, but I’m so glad I decided to check it out. It’s genuinely one of the most fun Sonic games in the series. Reminds me a little of Super Mario 3D World, just way stripped down. It’s also the first one to really solidify the actual story of those early games. Truly did not know why Eggman was putting those animals in his machines or why his robots had small animals inside them until playing this. Of course it’s not nearly as fast paced as the classic 2D sidescrollers, but it is a lot more accessible as a result. It’s a quick little game that you can knock out in a couple hours if you know what you’re doing, but not so easy that it isn’t a ton a fun. I was kind of shocked to see this had such a low rating score, which I suppose is because it plays so different than most Sonic games. I just really loved it and will probably play again whenever I want to turn on my Genesis.
