4/5 ★ – MechaniChris's review of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Addressed pretty much every complaint I had about the previous game and surpasses it in every way. The story feels even bigger while staying intimate and personal. The combat is dramatically improved, making me feel like a real powerhouse when I’m in the zone, but always staying challenging. Not to mention the addition of several new fighting stances to completely adapt your style of play. Being able to blast a guy after breaking his stance with your saber is SO satisfying. If I were to make any real criticisms, I would say that the retreading of the same planets so often does make this galaxy feel particularly small, despite the planets themselves feeling so large. There also remains a stiffness that’s hard to really articulate. I’ve heard a lot of people compare this to a Souls-like and while I don’t entirely disagree, part of what makes those games so fun is how smooth it feels to move, and attack and dodge around. I always find my thumbs moving far faster than I want Cal to move in this, though it’s still a marginal improvement of the very stiff combat in the first game. Very much looking forward to an inevitable sequel however. Cal is a great addition to the Star Wars Canon and this journey he’s on is often as good (or better) than some of the mainline movies and shows. Maybe give us some crazy force abilities next time. Pushing and pulling is all well and good, but I want some of those KotOR force powers.
