4/5 ★ – Merc's review of Mirror's Edge.
Played this way back when on the 360 and I decided to buy it and relive it.
Gameplay: Despite being 12+ years old, it still plays surprisingly well. The parkour is smooth and works well, with the occasional hiccup (not climbing when I want to, etc). The combat feels good too, although very simple it's still satisfying to beat up some cop and steal his gun. My only complaint is that it can be somewhat difficult at times to know where exactly the game wants you to go, specifically referencing the scaffolding level here.
Narrative: Not the best. It's very uninteresting for the most part, and very predictable. Not to mention, a little cheesy at times. You won't be on the edge of your seat on this one.
Visuals: The best part. Again, despite being 12+ years old, Mirrors Edge has some of the best artistic visuals I've seen. The bright simple solid colors just seem to work so well. Don't play this game in a dark room though, or else it will destroy your eyes lol.
Soundtrack: There's some good stuff in here, namely the menu and credits song. Other than that I can't recall anything else making much of an impression.
The age is definitely felt in this at times, and I can't deny that nostalgia is probably influencing my opinion, but I still think this is worth a play if you're thinking about it, especially since it's dirt cheap most of the time.
