4.5/5 ★ – MicheladaMan's review of Mario Kart World.
It is hard to review a game like this because I feel like I need to spend 100+ hours in it to really get a good understanding of it, but technically I saw the credits roll so I’ll take a crack at this.
NOTE: I will be reviewing this without taking price into consideration since that is a hot topic. I technically paid $50 for this game which I think is a fantastic deal, but $80 would definitely be too expensive in my opinion.
This game is phenomenal. It is hard to describe to anyone that hasn’t played it yet, but man I haven’t had as much fun in a Mario Kart game since Double Dash on the Gamecube.
The grinding/wall riding mechanic is everything in this game. It takes a little while to get used to but once you do it makes the whole game a blast. All of the courses are designed with this mechanic in mind, and it is done so well. Once you get the hang of it you can pull off some crazy things in each level that make you feel like a badass. A common complaint I have seen talks about the open world being too barren, but once you are familiar with the mechanics in the game it becomes a lot more interesting to explore.
I also want to shoutout the free character costumes in this game. The roster isnt quite as stacked as MK8, but the fact that all of the main characters are here with some really fun and well designed costumes should make any MK fan happy.
Finally, the soundtrack. Oh boy, the soundtrack in this game is ridiculously good. There are 200 songs in this game and they are all fantastic.
I’m genuinely having a blast with this game. I totally understand why people are upset at this game, and it is warranted in certain aspects, but at least Nintendo delivered on the goods with this one.
