3/5 ★ – Miker525's review of The Outer Worlds.

A fairly short but entertaining RPG, The Outer Worlds was a fun experience, though not one with too much depth. I played through the main story and almost every subquest and found every companion and played for about 35 hours. The games companion system was pretty great and I enjoyed the differing personalities among each one, though I did quickly choose favorites and then pretty much stick exclusively to them. This game has a strong space Fallout vibe. The humor is there and is done well through great writing from NPC's and companion characters, mixed with the distinct personalities each company town had really built this interesting atmosphere and environment that could suck me in. The gameplay itself however wasn't perfect. The gunplay felt fine though not superb but that could be spiced up via the use of science weapons which could add some quirk (think shrinking an enemy in addition to damage done). Gameplay would be fine but a lack of a stealth system really kept coming back and hitting me. Stealth is really not implemented too well. Sure you can crouch and disappear into the tall grass but stealth kills are nigh impossible, or at least I found them to be. The subquests had character to them and made some neat stories but the main plotline never felt super pressing or important to me. For a fallout lite experience this game really hits the nail on the head. It's a good competent game and as one that was free via gamepass it was one very worth playing.
