5/5 ★ – Mint_Igneous's review of Borderlands 2.
This will forever be my favorite game of all time. This is the game that truly got me into video games as a whole. What was once a hobby to fill time, turned into a passion. I saw that games aren’t so lifeless and dead, like the mainstream games like Call of Duty and the others. That games have personality and charisma. And this game has an overwhelming spark of charisma, personality, and a fucking tone to distinguish it from everything else. It is the sequel of it’s 2010 predecessor. Which was also amazing. But this game takes it’s previous installment and improves on it in every single way possible. It features characters that are more than memorable, the vault hunters all have a unique and separable personality, that makes them all a joy to play. Your experience through the game won’t be the same through multiple playthroughs, it all depends on who you play, and how you play them. There’s nearly endless ways to build your characters and to decide what skills you want them to have. There’s so much customization, not only in gameplay, but in cosmetics as well. What other game allows you to have the option of playing as a soldier who’s a little too obsessed with his gadgets, a robotic assassin that only speaks in haikus, a crazy Spanish man that duel wields guns while screaming, a teenage girl who has created a ‘deathtrap’ capable of tearing apart her enemies, a bloodthirsty psycho that mutates himself into an insane bludgeoning maniac that chops his enemies in half with a buzzsaw, and an angel with a satirical and sadistic personality that can withhold her victims in a space time bubble. You can do whatever the fuck you want. And not to mention the story itself, which is fucking amazing. The vault hunters you could play as in the original installment have returned, older and wiser. They guide you through the story and you learn more and more about the world as the campaign continues. You’re fighting against the single best antagonist in video game history. Handsome Jack. What a masterpiece of an antagonist. He represents the dark side of humanity, the insatiable greed, with the hopes of an infallible reputation. He was a normal person and a vault hunter. Until the inadequacy of the world and the greed that lies within humanity possessed him, and he therefore became a dictator that is obsessed with power and obtaining the limitless potential of the vaults. And again, he leaves you asking yourself, “Is he really the bad guy?” The way he interferes with your endeavor and interacts with you through the story, it’s so incredibly believable and immersive. And while you play through the campaign of colorful characters and a masterpiece of a story, you can blast through your enemies with the millions of guns at your disposal. If there’s one thing borderlands wants you to know, it’s that you can have BILLIONS OF GUNS!!! There’s guns that can do almost anything you can imagine, and literally endless variants of them. With unique parts and pieces that change their gameplay. There’s even different gun brands that have different effects. You can customize your load out to your liking. And once you get max level, you can focus on building your perfect character. Which is beyond insanely fun. So many people hate farming for weapons. But I find it so enjoyable, I love it, it feels so rewarding when you can finally get your hands on the weapon you’ve wanted forever. And of course, this game is also FUCKING HILARIOUS! You have to experience it for yourself. All of the jokes hit so perfectly. So once we combine perfect gameplay, infinite customization options, unlimited possibilities for your venture through the story, a masterful campaign, and an antagonist that threatens you while eating pretzels, you’ve gor yourself the best game of all time. I’ll love this game forever, and I’ll replay it forever, it’s truly timeless and it won’t ever lose what makes it so special to me. I fucking love this game.
