2/5 ★ – Mithril's review of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

I have never been so baffled and thoroughly bored by the opening hour of a game. I was told by several friends this was a great game and the review numbers don’t lie, but if I wanted to sit through hours of other people doing a plot in front of me, I’d watch a movie. It’s just... painful. I’ll suffer a lot for a great story, but this was far too obsessed with how clever it thought it was, it forgot to actually be good. I play games to engage in stories, not whatever that was. I passed the four hour playtime mark and put the controller down, resigned to the fact not every game is for everyone.
