4/5 ★ – MixTowndrow's review of Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate.

The Mortal Kombat series continues to oddly be one of the most accessible fighting games for people who are typically not heavily into the genre. Whether you’re playing through the wild yet engaging story, playing arcade one-off matches, or tacking towers, the single player modes always scale appropriately and make you feel fantastic when pulling off a special, “kombo”, or fatality. Would I get absolutely torn apart online? Sure. But the game is built for both the hardcore and casual in mind. Mortal Kombat holds a soft, bloody spot in my heart, and I believe I can confidently say that MK11: Ult is the best in the series yet. The one negative point? The “gotcha” mechanic that is The Krypt. Grinding for new costumes and fatalities is an endless chore. I would love to see a new system implemented in the future. For example, a system that rewards you for playing as particular characters instead of opening random chests hoping for something worth while. Almost every game feels the need to have the “please come back to me” system nowadays. I just wish that system in MK11 felt less cheap.
