4/5 ★ – ModernNeanderthal's review of Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Super Mario 64: This game is super fun, if a little jank. Even on the Switch. I started this intending for it to be a quickie so I could move on to the main event Sunshine (I beat 64 100% 4 years ago on the 64, so I didn't want to spend too much time). Anyway 4 months later and I'm finally done. Can't believe all I got was a cake. Time for Sunshine! Super Mario Sunshine: This was a ton of fun, they absolutely learned some lessons on 3d platforming between this and 64, the controls are pretty tight and the only times they piss me off are when theyre being deliberately difficult. Fludd is also a great addition to the gang of Mario characters and is a super fun addition to the gameplay, I really like all of the weird water and goop physics all around the game. Super Mario Galaxy: This game was pretty fine. I think it was my least favourite of the 3 in the All-stars pack but hey, we can't all be winners. I think a lot of this game is neat, and the gravity gimmick is pretty fun (when it doesn't make me feel like a barf) and the new powers are neat. I even liked Luigi and the music is very good. My main problem is that none of this is exciting to explore. Rosalinas ship felt a little bare to me and kind of annoying to maneuver around, unlike Delfino Plaza or Peachs Castle, I felt. I also never really got into the stage design of these world's and felt like they were a little bit of a step back from Sunshine. I do like that at the end we basically tell a black hole to spit us out like some kind of dog. I probably should have read more of the diary entries but I just couldn't care. Maybe I'll 100% this game when I'm not between two series.
