2/5 ★ – MrChurch's review of Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

Dying Light 2 is an ambitious sequel that attempts to build upon the success of its predecessor but falls short in many areas, resulting in a mixed experience. While the addition of new elements (such as the infection timer and dark zones) is more than welcome, the removal of already great features and the abundance of technical issues like lagging cutscenes and dialogue syncing problems make it incredibly hard to fully enjoy the game. The story itself lacks the same depth and intensity as the first game, the only characters I really had any interest in were Frank, Hakon and Lawan, and that’s not really because they were particularly well written or anything, it’s just that their story was the most engaging to me personally. As for the rest of the characters, they fail to make a lasting impression which left me feeling pretty indifferent about their fates, in fact I just realised that I have no clue what happened to half of them because the game didn’t tell me. To compliment the story being about as interesting as staring at pond scum, the main plot twist, while most definitely unexpected, feels lackluster and poorly executed since it comes out of nowhere and without any foreshadowing, leaving you disappointed and unsatisfied. The ending overall fails to provide a satisfying conclusion to the story, if you can even consider there being a story in the first place. I honestly found myself most interested in the "Book Club" side quests, helping out a wholesome old man and having him educate me on famous literature, as well as having a possible love interest to pursue, just from one small side mission that was better than the entire story… and 90% of it is just collecting books. Despite everything, I will say that I have a fond memory of most of the opening hours in old villedor, but still nothing compared to the first game. Overall, I would not recommend this game, even for fans of the first game; it adds some nice new features, but also removes a ton of features that made the first game great and lies to you about your choices having an effect on the world to try and grab your money, incredibly disappointing.
