4.5/5 ★ – MrChurch's review of Life is Strange: True Colors.
Definitely the best Life Is Strange game by miles.
I - In Comparison To Its Predecessors
————————————
I’ve always been a big fan of the life is strange games since I first played them. I think I was coming to my sense anyway but playing this one made me realise how much I’ve been overhyping the previous games.
They’re not really bad by any means (well maybe apart from Life is Strange 2, and even that isn’t BAD bad) but they’re not greatest games by any means. I think at the time of Life is Strange’s release it was just a breath fresh air into the genre, bringing a new art style, new mechanics and a new setting/time for the preceding games in the series to follow.
Looking back though… yeah it was alright, I know I really enjoyed Before The Storm, but I was going through an edgy teen phase then and my judgement may have been clouded, but I’ll still have the nostalgia for it. Captain Spirit was also a standout to me, and I think it worked really well as just its own contained story; it didn’t get my hyped for 2 at all, just invested in Chris and his relationship with his Dad, think it hit me very close to home basically.

II - The Game Itself
————————————
I think that this game is where everything has been leading up too, and that the rest of the games were kind of just testing the waters in their own individual ways. True Colours is EVERYTHING I expect from Life Is Strange, truly a comeback from how mediocre 2 was.
I don’t know if Deck Nine will be officially taking over from Don’t Nod, but out of the four full length games we’ve gotten in the series; Deck Nine has produced my two favourites, and I think that says a lot. I still enjoy Don’t Nod’s games, Vampyr was amazing, but I don’t know if the episodic style of player choice games is the right thing for them to focus on; I guess only time will tell as I still have yet to play Tell Me Why and Twin Mirror; if they still mess up, I hope they take another shot at an open world RPG game with the elements of choice implemented in… THAT, is what they’ve been good at; seeing not necessarily the people around you and their attitudes towards you change, but seeing the world around you change due to your choices.

III - The Actual Review
————————————
(I apologise for barely mentioning True Colours in this review but the review just took a turn and I went with it.
In short, it’s brilliant, it provides a great, emotive story and this is the Life Is Strange game that I think truly felt like it focused on the human parts of all its characters, I could honestly compare it to a Chloé Zhao Movie in Video Game Format.
It also has a ton of unique and fun switches in its style of gameplay which is always super fun, something that Before The Storm also did with it’s optional Dungeons and Dragons session.
So basically… Great Game, Go Play It!)
