3.5/5 ★ – MrFlamingo's review of Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition.

Hardware: PS5 Time Played: 45+ Hours Story Completion: 100% (including main frozen wilds quest) Total Completion: ≈70% (as of 20/02/22) Score: 73/100 Overall Review Guerrilla Games' first attempt at the open-world RPG genre was nothing short of amazing. Despite the game having its own short comings in terms of gameplay and animation, the world and lore that Guerrilla Games' have developed has made Horizon Zero Dawn (HZD) a good launching off point for the franchise. The Good (Positive Points) - An exciting new take on the "man vs machine" narrative - A touching story of self-discovery and self-acceptance - Lovable protagonist, Aloy - Great lore and world building - Amazing graphics and art design - World design is rich and varied - Machines were well crafted - Costume design was unique among the different tribes and accurately showcases their unique traits - Unique and fun combat system The Bad (Minor Inconveniences) - Combat, while unique and fun, feels clunky at times (could be that I just suck tho) - Traversal is hit or miss - Side quest/errands are fairly repetitive (although there were a few standout quests) - UI could be better designed - Could have marked medicinal plants differently from resource plants The Ugly (Negative Points) - Character animations aren't the best and definitely takes away some of the emotions in the voice actors' performances (not a problem in the frozen wilds DLC) - Side characters' facial features were being recycled (Marad and Zaid, Balahn and Vilgund) - Cinematics are extremely stale (especially when compared to other PS exclusives)
