3.5/5 ★ – MuckinStash's review of Killer is Dead: Nightmare Edition.

3.5/5 stars is me being generous while also being biased. I love this game and what it does as a whole but what it does when you look into it is far beyond comprehension. The story is a rollercoaster connected by tracks made of popsicle sticks and the coaster itself is on fire while constantly leaning off the tracks trying to fall off. Nothing makes sense but that's the charm of the game atleast for me, you can string together plot points but the way you get to each point is insane. The gameplay is chaotic and the boss fights are stupid but are creative in execution. The camera will be your best friend and make you feel like a total badass chopping through everything but then you get to a point where it constantly gets stuck in weird spots and leaves enemies out of view allowing you to have less than a second to react. The enemies will guard your attacks and it feels horrible to wiggle around them doing so which sounds like a skill issue but believe me when I say it is not because I beat the game on hard without using any revives. Enemies and bosses will sometimes telegraph attacks but still feels like the dodge times do not correlate with their actual attacks. Visually the game is cool and stylized but the shading can be too bright making some characters look like new barbie dolls. The game would crash randomly until I went into the game's code and fixed it myself. I can name several more things wrong with the game but if you're still reading then I'd assume you either still interested in the game or want to hear me complain about it more. Sorry but the complaints end here and the glaze starts. Looking past the wave of flaws with this game I really do enjoy it a shit ton. It's cheesy and somewhat is selfaware how stupid the story is. The combat has a flow state that I love in hack and slash games but it feels so fresh. The way you upgrade your character skills isn't in a skill tree and you can chose exactly what you want to upgrade which I much prefer. Upgrading your character himself is done via collecting xp points for each stat along the map but you can kill enemies and fuffil a condition to chose which xp point you want. The boss fights play with familiar clichès but felt so fresh for some reason. You will for some odd reason kind of like the main protagonist even though by all means you should not be invested in a single one of these characters but personally I started to vibe with them all. The atmosphere of the game is a acid trip and it dwells in mystery and fantasy while shrouded in a tech glorified world. The enemies you fight are robot aliens from the moon? I feel like if you play this game you have to know you're in for a experience that isn't a "so bad its good" but a "so weird its great" experience. Truly a game of all time and its fairly memorable especially because you can bang women for upgrades.
