2.5/5 ★ – NexusofVenus's review of Drakengard.
Drakengard is fascinating in that it’s one of those games that feels like it is truly trying to push boundaries and be something truly special. Yet somehow that comes at the cost of the game being complete and utter dogshit. Gameplay wise… yeah it sure was. It sure is a game that you can… definitely play. But honestly this games gameplay is just too dated to be enjoyable. I understand cameras being crappy to reinforce the chaos of battle… but like good god it makes ground missions almost unbearable. And aerial missions… Jesus fuck those blow too. I appreciate this game for paving the way for more games challenging the limits that video games can reach in terms of narratives… but that doesn’t make this game good. It just makes it… tolerable. Sort of. Not really. Honestly barely tolerable. I imagine this game is more fun if you just get one or two endings and call it a day but… dammit I can’t do that. So I have to suffer through mindnumbing level design and fucking annoying time limits. Like who really cares if it takes me 8 minutes to kill all the goblins? I’m sorry I didn’t realize treasure chests were that picky?
