4.5/5 ★ – NexusofVenus's review of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
Monolith soft once again proves that no one does a definitive edition quite like them. Fixing nearly every problem the original game possessed and rolling it into one of the most addictive entries into the series thus far. The new content added is pretty cool too, thought it is kinda minuscule in the grand scheme of things. I didn’t find myself using the new characters or skells with one exception really. The main issue I did have was the new ending. SPOILERS AHEAD: the new ending feels a bit like a slap in the face to the old one. The original ending felt in tune with the theme of this game. Centering around survival and the potential of humanity, it made sense to ends things with mankind forging a new life on Mira. But the new ending is like “ jk we gotta leave Mira now lol” and you go to a new, interesting but ultimately kinda boring continent, fight some more bosses until you find a new planet to call home. It just kinda feels like a tacked on way to connect this game to the rest of the series. Bc now “oh shit guys… parallel universes means we can go ANYWHERE!” I understand the Xeno series has been trying to create a big interconnected narrative long before we as a society became obsessed with multiverses and expanded universes… but I think this game might be better off as its own thing. All in all it’s a fantastic game with plenty of content to keep you well fed. And if they do manage to connect this game to the rest of the series… I mean honestly props to them.
