3/5 ★ – NiGHTS108's review of Pac-Man World.

Unlike a certain forgotten Square RPG I've been playing lately, I don't have a particularly high amount of stuff to say for Pac-Man World if we're being honest. I'm just gonna cut the shit and say this is probably one of the most average platformers I've played in years, which does kinda suck because I really feel like there's more you can do with this concept. I basically played half of it over a week or two with increasing indifference, and then like a month later did the second half in one day after deciding I wanted to move on with my life. It basically does what you'd expect out of a platformer with Pac-Man in it, references to the arcade games, Pac-Man's awkward family, you know the drill. I hate to say it but considering this game stars a ball I'm disappointed there's not a whole lot of momentum involved. Pac-Man can never really run faster than he normally does which really sucks because he does have some potentially cool moves like his running in place thing to get over vast gaps or this other one where he can immediately just slam to the ground, I like this stuff and I wish it was in a game that was more fluid. To be more positive, I did think the final boss was pretty cool, I thought saving Pac-Man's family was just a thing for 100% but no, they actually help you very significantly during the fight. This probably could have been conveyed better to the player so someone less inclined to find all the secrets would know that it actually meant something. (Unlike all the other collectibles in this game.) Actually wait, I just said I was being positive so the final boss itself was really neat. I actually quite enjoy his design and he's pretty fun and memorable even if just like every other boss in this game he follows a really basic structure. That's all I have to say that really stuck out to me to be honest, would I recommend this one? Sure! If you're not a snobby bastard like me. I've heard Pac-Man World 2 is better so idk, maybe I'll give that a go eventually. Huh... guess I did have more to say than I thought starting this review. As I said it's pretty average and I'll probably never replay it but if you're not thoroughly spoiled on indie platformers like I am you'll likely have a better time. Also wtf the plot of this game is some huge fuckin robot stealing Pac-Man's identity and every single ghost on his island is fooled by it, that's the actual best part of this game lmfao Final grade: C+ Overall difficulty: C-
