4/5 ★ – Niclau's review of The Godfather: The Game.

Probably the game I have completed the most times across the most consoles, having played both the PS2, PC, PSP, 360, Wii and PS3 versions. I simply love the game, primarily because of its rich and engaging side content, especially in the enhanced versions (360, Wii, PS3). The handling of the story is interesting but ultimately fails to capture the slow burn style of the Godfather movies. Luckily the missions are all entertaining and leaves plenty of room to engage with the side content in between. The Godfathers version of 1950's New York is pretty ok, with many interiors and back alleys to explore and a handful of cars to drive, but don't go in expecting GTA levels of detail in the environment. The map also suffers from a couple of dead spots with absolutely nothing going on, but it's mostly alright. I personally really like the gunplay, but it can arguably feel a little sluggish at times. It's pretty cool that, while the player character is an absolute unit, he's not invincible. It adds a nice layer of tension to the gameplay, especially when taking on the enemy compounds. All in all The Godfather is a solid open world crime game that did some really interesting things for its time, and it's still very much enjoyable today. It also introduced 10 year old me (and many others, I suspect) to one of the best movies of all time.
