4/5 ★ – Niebeer's review of Ys X: Nordics.
Another solid entry in the Ys franchise. These games are always a good time. A simple, straight forward adventure story with fast paced combat and a killer OST. This one has a viking theme to it which brings some naval combat into the gameplay. I'm not usually a fan of that kind of gameplay but it was fine. For this reason though, I did not enjoy this entry as much as Ys VIII and Ys IX.
But its still a really good game, even with the inclusion of naval combat. Another change is the party size, you only control two characters this time around, Adol, the protagonist of most of these games, and Karja, the pirate princess. Some may see this as a negative but both characters are really fun to play, and there's a huge supporting cast that makes up the crew of your ship, so it still feels like a journey with a big group.
This is a fine entry point into the series, and fans are probably already playing it. Get it if you like fast paced action rpgs with badass soundtracks, and low budget visuals that look like a ps2 game (in the best way possible) combined with a nice 90s anime asthetic sounds cool to you.
