5/5 ★ – NoahIsAHuman's review of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - a perfect game and a perfect follow up.
As far as I’m concerned, the Breath of the Wild trilogy (comprising of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, TLOZ: Breath of the Wild and TLOZ: Tears of the Kingdom) is the greatest fantasy story ever told, and the best video game trilogy ever. It took me 70 hours to beat this game, and what an absolute joy every second of it was.
I love how this takes all the best parts of Breath of the Wild, and adds in parts of other Zelda games people missed (more traditional dungeons, for example), added even more NEW content, and just to top it off, TRIPLED the amount of Hyrule to explore.
The new mechanics are great, I love the new runes (even if I forget Autobuild and Recall exist half the time), the weapon fusing is so much fun and works so well with Breath of the Wild’s combat gameplay! My greatest combo was combining a Biggoron’s Sword to another Biggoron’s Sword, to create the Biggoron’s Sword Sword that dealt 72 damage. The Lynels went running from that (they didn’t actually, the only Lynel I saw was immediately hit with an Ancient Arrow).
The story is arguably Zelda’s most emotional yet, with a twist I didn’t see coming that had me all kinds of sad. Every character’s story is fantastic, my favourites being Zelda’s and Yunobo’s! The story of the Zonai is also so interesting!
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is tied with Doom Eternal as my favourite game of all time. Those final 5 minutes gave me some of the most satisfying, euphoric emotions I’ve ever felt. 10/10 easily, my Game of the Year.
