5/5 ★ – OkamiGames's review of Resident Evil 4.

A masterful remake and an all-time great survival horror experience bar none. The team at Capcom has been on absolute fire recently and this could very well be their best work yet. The visuals are breathtaking the entire way through. From the detailed environments, to the character models and animations, everything is rendered with incredible level of detail and precision. It has a darker tone compared to the original but this leads to an even better balance between action and horror, creating an experience that is both exciting and terrifying. And the PC port is near flawless which is something that can rarely be said nowadays. The gameplay is where the game truly shines. Controls are fluid and intuitive, and the third person controls from the original were translated beautifully into the modern age. There's a wide variety of weapons and upgrades giving you the freedom to approach encounters in multiple ways, including the new stealth system. With the limited amount of ammo and resources, you will be forced to use nearly everything in your toolbox over the course of the game. The story has been improved as well in my opinion. It is mostly the same as the original, but there are some smart changes and rearranging of plot beats which overall leads to a much more cohesive and masterfully paced experience. They took everything about the original and cranked it up to 11, while also adding plenty of twists for veterans. Resident Evil 4 Remake is a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike. It's a game that excels in every aspect, both as a remake of an all time classic and as a standalone survival horror experience. Easily the best of the REmakes so far and an early GOTY contender.
