4/5 ★ – Onahx's review of Bayonetta 2.

Bayonetta 2 takes everything that worked about the first game and refines it while trimming out the fat, making for a fast, satisfying, and addictive action game. I could also make somewhat sense of the story this time around too (mostly). The combat is mostly the same as what the first game offered but something about it feels… crisper this time around. Activating witch time comes naturally and every weapon really shines. I died significantly less here but I don’t feel like that’s necessarily because it was easier, it’s just that most of the BS has been stripped out. And it’s all presented in a very slick style that’s so appealing to look at. Not to say it’s perfect by any means. I wish unlockables felt a little more achievable, especially alternate weapons. I found myself using the same three weapons the whole game because I couldn’t afford many others until the last couple chapters. Never got around to purchasing any accessories either which I would have liked to play with. I get that it’s incentive to keep playing the game but still. Despite that, it’s a fantastic game. Crazy to think how out of left field it was for Nintendo to fund this at the time.
