4/5 ★ – Onahx's review of Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition.
It’s kind of unfathomable just how insanely much content there is to this game— I mean it is a complication of an already huge game with all of its DLC packaged in, but it’s definitely a step further than that. Can’t say I’ve played a ton of warrior games outside of the Zelda ones (though I have had PS5 Strikers sitting unplayed on my shelf for over a year now) so I can’t really compare this to the other Dynasty Warriors titles, but the combat feels very fluid, if not repetitive, which is kind of the whole point. Despite all controlling exactly the same, every character feels very unique from one another and even individual character weapons feel different. And I can’t help but admire all the Zelda love put into this. Almost every game in the huge series is represented with some playable characters that could really be considered deep cuts.
Between the story, adventure mode, and challenges, there’s way more than ample opportunity to mess around with all of the game’s roster. Ever since the first game released it’s been a personal goal of mine to 100% this at some point, but once this was announced I figured I’d put off that goal until I got my hands on definitive edition, since it easily streamlines the path to finishing everything. The DLC maps in the original require an absurd amount of grinding and the 3DS game fixed that but the performance wasn’t there. With this you can have your cake and eat it too so it really is the definition edition. My copies of the Wii U and 3DS versions are really just going to be shelf decorations at this point.
