3.5/5 ★ – Onahx's review of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages.

In my review for Oracle of Seasons I feel like I kinda slammed this game along with it. Honestly though, after a replay I feel like Oracle of Ages legitimately does hold up and may even be somewhat underrated. Oracle of Ages is the more puzzle-heavy game of the two, which really works in its favor. The dungeons here are mostly memorable and the land of Labrynna feels natural to explore. This is now the third time the Zelda series has used the exact same overworld swapping mechanic, which is even functionally the same as how the dark world worked in ALttP, but Oracle of Ages continues to get a lot of mileage out of the way these two time periods affect each other. The story is even pretty decent here, with a much more interesting villain and some side characters, namely Ralph, that have an impact. The scope actually feels pretty epic by the end, especially for a GameBoy Color game. I still don’t understand why Capcom felt a need to make a new engine for this when it’s using the same look as Link’s Awakening. The gameplay just overall still doesn’t feel as tight but this doesn’t suffer from that nearly as much as Oracle of Seasons does. Regardless, I enjoyed my time in Labrynna and will likely return one day. Don’t let people tell you otherwise, this one is indeed worthy of the Zelda honor.
