3/5 ★ – Oxsila's review of Another Crab's Treasure.

Nope. Challenge + clunkiness cannot coexist for me. If a game is challenging, I have to have decent control of what is going on. This game is not that. Nothing is overly complicated about the combat, it's simply just not responsive enough. It also needs to be said that the platforming isn't great either. It all just feels like you're not quite fully in control of your character and as a result you end up falling through fault of the game. Also, there are cutscenes that are voiced when the rest of the games dialogue isn't which is my #1 pet peeve in all of gaming. Either make the entire game have no voiced dialogue, or make it ALL voiced dialogue. Stay consistent or else the lack of voiced dialogue sections feel so much worse (looking at you Yakuza). It's very hard to get a soulslike right. Only few have been successful like The Surge, Lies of P... Maybe if Another Crab had difficulty options i'd feel more compelled to play through the game because the world is pretty and relaxing, but the gameplay isn't fluid enough to warrant wasting time on the difficulty. There's nothing worse than dying because of the game not because of your own mistake. I'm always happy to accept my own mistakes, but not clunkiness. I have 0 patience for clunkiness in a soulslike. Give me a set of tools to work with and a hard boss to overcome. Don't make me overcome clunkiness because you're too lazy to make the game genuinely difficult.
