2/5 ★ – PWord's review of Saints Row.

Now I can't call myself a Saints Row veteran, I joined in at The Third, played Saints Row IV, and it's expansion Gat out of Hell. But, I am still a fan of this franchise and grew to love this series. Unfortunately, Saints Row (2022) is a reboot that takes the life and identity out of a franchise that some would consider to have been at its peak back when the fourth game and its expansion were released. SR feels very bland, it's boring.. the antagonists lack depth and the new Saints in the game feel... out of place. Almost like they walked into the set of the wrong video game set they were supposed to be on, cause these guys are not gangsters. The story lacks much to be desired. Though the Nahualli IS a really cool character he is no Johnny Gat. Gangs are big side pieces in a SR game and in this one, they are dull. Los Panteros, The Idols, Marshall Defense Industries, SWAT, and PD. Three of those are a form of police/military unit of some sort. The first two are actual gangs. Two boring gangs. What is true though, is that I still had fun playing this game. I went for 100% WORLD completion, I wanted to own all of Santo Illeso before completing the final mission, and I did. It was satisfying, fun, felt rewarding upgrading the mansion. And generally, the side missions were a lot of fun. I would be lying if I said I had a bad time playing this game. Cause I did not, I enjoyed the grind, but I did not enjoy the story, characters, or the lack of feeling like Saints Row. Rest in peace Volition, sad it had to go out like this.
