3/5 ★ – PacoRUK's review of Blue Prince.
This one got a lot of buzz but it fell flat for me. A lot of people have compared it to Outer Wilds and The Witness which are two of my favourite games but I honestly don't feel like this is on the same level.
The mystery in Blue Prince doesn't have the same level of intrigue as Outer Wilds and from what I've seen so far it doesn't seem like it will have as satisfying of a pay off. I've only found 2 red letters so far so there is a chance I'm wrong about this but after seeing the room 46 cutscene I'm not holding out much hope.
All of the puzzles are also a bit too easy. I looked up a guide once during my play through (to find the order of the statues in the tomb) but that wasn't because I couldn't figure out the puzzle but rather that I didn't have the chapel drafted and didn't want to waste my time. Anything that does feel like it requires some effort to work out usually gets explained to you in great detail the more you play the game. In a few cases the reward for figuring something out also left me pretty disappointed, decoding the table of elements puzzle only to realise I'd already been giving the same solution from a note in the office was a let down.
The moment to moment game play isn't exactly great either, most rooms just become things you glance around for items before moving on.
I didn't hate this game but I also doubt I'll ever think of it again once I stop playing it.
