4/5 ★ – Pelapatatas's review of Aliens: Dark Descent.
"Another glorious day in the Corps!"
Played on Xbox Series X
First of all, let me start by saying that I really like tactical games and it's been a while since I enjoyed one this much. And I also I'm a big fan of the Alien franchise so, lucky me!
At first I wasn't that sure about not having turns and it being in "real time" but it works pretty well and it adds a layer of tension to a pretty tense game already. Having your squad hidding in a room while a Xenomorph patrols the corridor while your detector senses other bleeps will get you sweating. Or the big hordes that happen once in a while, or a Queen. The gameplay is enticing and while mowing down everything that comes your way is a choice, stealth and choosing your battles is probably better.
I really enjoyed the environments, which include your typical colony, factory or space station. They set the mood pretty good.
The only thing I would outline as a con is Difficulty Spikes. There are a few missions where the game throws you a curveball for the sake of "KILL ALIENS AND HAVE YOUR SQUAD INJURED/KILLED". It's not as bad if you have a fresh team or use your skills and equipement effectively, but sometimes it feels just unfair.
To me, this was a pretty good game that runs a bit on the longer side (13 chapters that more than likely will require 2-3 play sessions if play carefully like me).
