4/5 ★ – Pencil_Nexus's review of BioShock.

All right, I'll try not to mention how this is just better System Shock 2 in every way. So, Bioshock is just better System Shock 2 every way. I'll start with the negatives first, because I want to be fair for one of my favorite games. So, the arrow at the top of the screen is incredibly hand-holdy, but thankfully that can be disabled in the menu. The mission structures are all basically fetch quests, and while it isn't varied in this regard, it works really well with the narrative that's set. The camera mechanic could be implemented better, it leads to the player just spamming film to max out research. It's not required, but it's very rewarding. Lastly, the hacking mini game can get tedious, but I don't think it's that bad, way better than B2. Oh yeah, the final boss being a big guy you shoot at was just a weird thing in that era, so that smells. Other than that, the rest of the game is close to a masterpiece. The setting is atmospheric, the voice acting and dialogue is fantastic, the combat is satisfying, it's a classic for a reason. It's something that I will always come back to, it's just a comfort game and a great one at that.
