Welcome to Playstation... I know I'm REALLY late to the party when it comes to talking about Astro's Playroom. I can't even show up fashionably late as I don't think I have anything groundbreaking to say about it! I only became a permanent member of the Playstation family by the tail end of the PS4's life. If I had grown up on Sony's console legacy, then I could see myself gushing over the BONKERS number of adorable references and absolute love stemming from the 30+ year history of Playstation. (Although that could've made writing this much, MUCH more daunting). But as it stands, I'm don't think I'm right man to tell you exactly how incredible all the references are. BUT, what I can tell you is that it's all a wonderful cherry on top of a solid little 3D platformer! It not only manages to be fun on its own but goes all out on showing the incredible technology behind the PS5 and the DualSense. There's a fair share of sequences where you'll become a frog-bot or monkey-bot, and they all work around the DualSense's features in clever ways. The levels themselves are all themed around a piece of the PS5's hardware in stylish ways or incorporate a specific generation of Playstation. Nothing overstays its welcome, and the different collectables scattered throughout make exploration even more enticing. For what it's worth, the content here is more than enough, but for trophy hunters this two-hour adventure can almost double in length. 100% feels like the way to go with this game, and I'll need to make time to do so. There's no reason NOT to check out Astro's Playroom, as it'll please both Playstation enthusiasts and casual gamers just looking for something to play on their PS5. It's got love pouring through every corner of the screen. OH, DID I MENTION ITS FREE? ENTER THE PLAYROOM BABYYY! Finished: -8/31/23
