3.5/5 ★ – Perrythe8's review of AI: The Somnium Files.

I'm playing games quite slowly lately but school has me 💀 Anyways this game is fucking hilarious: WHY DID A MURDER MYSTERY FINISH WITH A DANCE NUMBER. Somnium Files was a great surprise for me in a lot of aspects. First, the price: I bought it for 8€. Second: the game in general. The mood they set up at the start is not compared at all with the rest of the game, and it's both cool and boring. Let me explain. All the characters of the game get a surprising amount of character development, and all of them are sassy as hell, so you get an exaggerated amount of hilarious conversations. Like, 80% of the novel is carried by comedy alone. Both sensical, and non sensical (yes, I'm talking about the Elephant scene). The game feels like a little detective game, all happy and all. Until you remember this is actually a game about people being killed and their eyes pulled out. Then you wonder: where's the story? Well, it's there all right; but at the end. Instead, for the most part, the story takes the back seat, and leaves up space for lovely character interaction. This ain't a bad thing for itself: but it does drag the game a lot, specially because of the pacing. You get a lot of tension scenes, and right after that, there's just going for place to place, asking things that don't get you nowhere, until you have to Psync. That mechanic is really cool, too. The puzzles were all really original, and I love the twisted logic they have. However, the time limits were a little too... Tight. Specially on the lasts ones from each Path. The ending came up a bit too abruptly, I think. And, given how I love fucked up twists and weird as hell science fiction: I didn't quite like the villain twist about all the machine and shit. I just felt it came way too unannounced, and abruptly. The game's a hell of a mess. Hell, the Switch version is really broken, some scenes go to 3 FPS, specially the car ones. But in general, I had an absolute blast with it. It got a lot of genuine laughs of me, and that's a win in my book, specially for just 8 bucks. So, if you find it at a similar price: do go ahead and play it
