2.5/5 ★ – Perrythe8's review of The Simpsons Game.
More than yellow, this game was a little too green.
The Simpsons Videogame, Simpsons the Videogame, or whatever the fuck you want to call it, it's a weird experience. Like, yes, it's enjoyable; but very forgettable, and very frustrating. Maybe not quite so enjoyable, now that i think about it.
The story is quite the mess, although it makes sense for the most part, and the humour accompanying, while a bit too meta at some points, is really cool. Although there's some story plots that could've better closing, as the entire alien invasion, as you see nothing happening to it although you know it's gone.
The bad part is the gameplay itself. The camera is horrible, absolutely horrible. It doesn't even move the way your character is looking unless you specifically move it. When you jump, it moves to wherever the fuck it wants. So, you'll be missing a lot of jumps. Not only that, but the characters are all really slow, and not satisfying to control. Not even Bart's hovering works well, and that should be at the least, fun.
The combat is hideous too. It's just pressing the same button again and again till the enemies (which sometimes have a little too much live) drops dead. It's very boring and tiring. And I'm not talking "in the late game" the combat gets repetitive just as you fucking start the game.
Oh, and the final boss? The God Dance Dance Revolution battle? One of the worst designed bosses ever. The chart wasn't even correct. The detection of you hitting the button is almost pixel perfect, cause I swear I pressed correctly a lot of times, and still got hit a lot. IT WASN'T EVEN RHYTHM-BASED. WHY DO YOU PUT A RHYTHM GAME REFERENCE ON THE GAMEPLAY IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA DO IR CORRECTLY.
All and all, is alright. You'll get a lot of laughs from it, and some levels are interesting enough.
