5/5 ★ – Perrythe8's review of Umineko: When They Cry.

*inhales deeply* I'm not prepared to write this. It means going away of Umineko, and I don't want to. Umineko no Naku Koro Ni is THE best story I've even read. It has absolutely everything you could ask for, and then more. Specially if you play the Umineko Project port, since it has the voice-acting. This mind-blowing story of Mystery Vs Witches has made me laugh with the characters (specially Battler), has made me fall in love with them (BEATRICE, MY BELOVED), and has made me feel even more connected to my love for mystery novels in general. This game is life changing, let me tell you. Every single chapter is special in it's own way. The visual novel media was really on its top with this one, with how it breaks the fourth wall while at the same time being important to the story; with how many layers upon layers of story there are, for you to have multiple reads and see them all. The novel might be 100+ hours long, but it's worth every single second. As I said, every single thing is this novel is magical. The music is incredible, and addicting. The characters (except the chef, fuck you) are all special, alive, and important to the story. Impressive having in account this game has like 40+ characters. If you're wondering if you should read it: please, do. Your mind will break over impossible crimes, you will be dared to solve them, and you will fall into the world of the best written love story I've even read. Also it has a lot of "how to deal with trauma" so you may want to read because of that. Seriously the layers of this game man. I can't express myself really well, I know. But even being able to do so, I wouldn't be able to say how special this novel is to me.
