4.5/5 ★ – QMS7's review of Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals Review 1. Combat System: At first, I was upset that heroes and villains played on the same team. I had hoped for a primary mode where heroes compete against villains, or even heroes against evil versions of themselves (if available). It would be great if such a system is added in the future to enhance the variety in gameplay. As for the Team Up feature, I haven’t delved into it much yet, but so far, I see it as an excellent addition that sets the game apart from its competitors. However, I hope victory doesn’t rely too heavily on this feature, as it might create difficulties in satisfying all team members who want to use it. While the feature adds a beautiful variety, it must be balanced so that the team with access to it doesn’t become unfairly stronger. 2. Characters and Variety: I highly appreciate the inclusion of characters I hadn’t heard of before or knew little about. When I first heard about the game, I expected it to be full of characters from the MCU, which might have been disappointing as it targets a specific audience. However, the presence of comic book characters brought a wonderful mix of familiar and new characters, making me excited to explore their comic stories. I hope the pace of character additions remains balanced. It’s good to add them gradually so that adapting to new characters isn’t overwhelming, nor should the additions be so slow as to cause boredom. Rumors suggest many characters are coming, and I hope they are introduced in well-planned intervals rather than all at once. 3. Gameplay and Stages: Initially, I was hesitant due to my expectations of imbalance in the game upon release. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the good balance, even a month after its launch. All the characters I’ve encountered so far seem balanced, at least from my perspective—except for Hela and Hawkeye, of course. Also, characters that excel in close-range combat and have fast movements are extremely hard to defeat. The stages themselves are simple, beautiful, and easy to memorize. They support the diversity of characters and their abilities. I also liked the destructible buildings, walls, and bridges, which add another layer of strategy. 4. Rewards System: The Battle Pass system was one of the game’s strongest points. The idea of choosing the rewards I want after completing challenges is excellent. The challenges themselves are balanced in terms of difficulty, but I wished there were fewer challenges requiring Team Up. I also wished it was possible to fully recover gold currency after completing the Battle Pass. 5. Graphics and Audio: The design of the characters, outfits, and overall graphics was stunning. I appreciated that characters inspired by the MCU retained their original appearances from the comics. The colors and animations make this game one of the best in its category in terms of visual quality. As for the sound and visual effects, they’re generally excellent, but I have one note about the menu music, which resembles Overwatch. This similarity was disappointing because I have PTSD associated with that game. Other than that, the music is generally very good and fits the game’s nature. 6. Player Community: So far, I haven’t encountered toxic players, either through voice or text chat, which is a positive sign. Communication using the message wheel was sufficient in most cases. 7. Technical Performance: Unfortunately, the technical performance was disappointing at times, as I noticed frequent FPS drops in many instances. I hope the technical performance improves soon to make the game more stable, along with addressing crashes. 8. Overall Impression: Marvel Rivals has massive potential and a strong media presence. I hope the game continues to develop and provide content for players in the years to come. This type of game can gradually die out if player feedback isn’t taken seriously, but successful developers always listen to their audience. The market lacks games of this kind, and the fact that this game is compared to Overwatch highlights the scarcity of competitors.
