2.5/5 ★ – Quiet_Robe's review of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth.

The story is doomed by mega dull characters and the most boring dialogues that just keep going and going... I can't tell you how much time I've spend just mashing the A button, having to endure dialogues about things I don't care about or characters talking about very little with way too many words. At some point in the story, there are some reveals and shit is about to hit the fan, and the story seems to be approaching its climax. But it just keeps going and the suspense just keeps being on the same level to the point I just wished it was over. The detective side quests are a joke. Sometimes you need to find new info, which basically boils down to just talking to characters that have a lock flying above their heads. No variety whatsoever (side note: the dialogue choices that don't make any difference are annoying. Don't include them if they don't matter). The only reason I still give this game a couple of stars is because in contrast to anything story related, the Digimon are super interesting. I liked the side quests where you talk to Digimon and help them out one way or another. I like how Digimon can talk and have their own personalities. I like the small things like Digimon texting me to get to know more about the human world. The battle system's alright, I don't have much to say about it except that I enjoyed it just fine. Digivolving is my favorite activity, just to see what moves they can learn and most of all what kind of fun or cool designs they can evolve into. It's really odd because it just feels like there are two games put together; there's this convoluted detective story and then there's the Digimon. I guess that eventually Digimon play a role in the story, but it still doesn't feel like they are the center point. There's always some other doofus doing a thing or some event taking the spotlight. And yeah, I know the story series is about story. But it's also supposed to be about Digimon, and their role in the plot feels way too secondary. The story's just not compelling and it's mainly because it's just nog executed well. In short, anything in this game that is Digimon related is good. Anything that is not, is not. 2.5/5
