2/5 ★ – RawMetal's review of Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code: Veronica.

System: Arcade Started: April 13, 2023 Ended: April 13, 2023 Free Play Arcade Session - April 13, 2023: 5/12 Resident Evil Code Veronica is mentioned to be one of the average Resident Evil games. In fact, I always pondered that Capcom could have remade this game and have a second shot of being the best remake. But unfortunately, they want to go for the green and make the Remake of Resident Evil 4. But anyways, I played this game at Galloping Ghost but it's the Japanese version of it as Gun Survivor 2: Biohazard Code Veronica. I was aware of that other Black Sheep game of the franchise, Resident Evil Survivor for the original PlayStation and it is known to be one of the worst games in the series. So Capcom wants to make a sequel somehow. Players can play as Claire Redfield or Steve Burnside, and I remember long ago about the plot to Code Veronica even though I honestly never played it. But after a thorough research on this game, it's loosely based on Code Veronica and not really a re-telling as it has the enemies and characters from Code Veronica and even the earlier games. So technically, this feels like a Dream Sequence kind of game which is weird. However, they remade the story of Code Veronica on Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles for the Wii. The most interesting thing about this game is the Arcade Cabinet as there is a stationary Light gun that moves in a square radius and it resembles the tank controls when moving. There are a total of 5 Stages as you go room to room, mostly going into pointless dead ends except if you want to get a high score or special weapons. But your main objective is you find a key which is highlighted on the mini-map and you use it to unlock the door to the Boss Room in order to advance to the next stage. There are notable enemies from the classic Resident Evil franchise such as the Lickers and Sweepers. Even Nemesis makes an appearance, but only if you spend too much time on the stage or when you are at Endgame. The rest of the game has you equipping weapons mainly Pistol as your default and you can pick up Shotgun, Machine Gun, Magnum and a Grenade Launcher when you destroy crates. Based on my experience, It can be frustrating due to the control movement for this game. Every time I die in the middle of combat, I always have to place myself exactly where I spawned so I can grab the Shotgun if you use a Continue. Enemies can be really cheap in this game since they can drain your health faster than you know it. And again, this game is not really canon to the main series and Capcom just developed this game for the fun of it and possibly torture us with more Gun Survivor gameplay. A unique game for its time in 2001 and I’m sure it's better than the first Gun Survivor game since it is meant to be in the Arcades, but I would stick with the actual game of Resident Evil Code Veronica. I thought Gun Survivor 2 is bad, but it could have been better, and they did with Darkside Chronicles. This game was ported to Home Consoles for the PS2. However, looking at some gameplay footage, it really has a lower frame-rate than the Arcade version possibly due to hardware limitations from the PlayStation 2, but you do get unlockables and extra content for that version of the game. Hardcore fans might try this out and be left disappointed. Be my guest to try this if you are searching for worse Resident Evil games.
