5/5 ★ – RawMetal's review of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

System: Nintendo GameCube Started: 2002 Ended: 2006 Flashback Review As I mentioned before on my Sonic Adventure DX Review, I was a huge Sonic fan and it all started when I visited a relative of mine who actually had the Sonic games on the Sega Genesis. The Dreamcast games flew over my radar at the time since I was a Nintendo kid, and I had the Nintendo 64 once the Dreamcast came out. Once I had the GameCube Console. I’ll never forget the time when me and my family went into a video rental store and I saw this game on the shelf and it's available to rent. Since my love for Animation struck me back in the day and knew about Sonic the Hedgehog, I had to rent this game. Once we picked this game up, booted up the game and heard Crush 40’s City Escape Tune, it blew me away. This game is awesome and my inner Sonic fandom grew at the time thanks to this game that I actually begged my parents to get Sonic Adventure DX when that was released later on. Little did I know about Sonic Adventure 2 when it was released on the Dreamcast, It was released when Sega announced that they discontinued the console. And Sonic Adventure 2 was one of the last games in the Post-Sega Console generation. For Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, it was the expansion of the original for the Dreamcast. And I admittedly wasn’t aware of any Sonic Dreamcast games until I played the GameCube Versions. Only one other relative of mine in my family used to own the Dreamcast but he just mainly played it for the sports games. Which is why he never owned or played any Sonic games. Out of all the Sonic games I've played in my life, this entry is certainly both the darkest and edgiest sonic game I ever played. And yes. Edgy as that Shadow the Hedgehog game but at least that one felt forced. This entry has that “hip-edgyness” vibe to it since Sonic is portrayed to be the cool and slick and more of the action-type since his original design looked more cartoony but still had that cool demeanor look. You play as almost the entire cast of the Sonic crew as Eggman’s Grandfather had a secret experiment that can threaten humanity so he had both a Death Star (Kidding it's a “Space Colony”) and a biological experiment and one of them is Shadow the Hedgehog and this is also his debut in this game. By playing as other characters and they have different mission variety aside from Sonic going from Point A to Point B, at least Tails has a Mech which can fire lasers and missiles, Knuckles of finding the pieces of the master emerald in an open-world level. And you can even get to play as the Bad Guys in this game. Which is something that is never done before in a Sonic game. Since this is “Battle” it’s an expansion from the Dreamcast version as there is a 2 player battle mode and extra characters that weren’t in the game, mostly the original Sonic Adventure. I’m quite surprised to see that people actually hated this game. I don’t get it. This is actually my favorite Sonic game. Granted, there are glitches and bug moments that make you go off the track costing you a life and the dubbing is noticeably bad when the cutscenes were played, but it didn't affect me much to make me hate this game. What I also really love about this game is the Soundtrack. The song Live and Learn is still catchy and timeless today that even my bro used that line in everyday life. There is even so much variety for the gameplay. The sequel is a step-up from the original and this is a juggernaut entry in the entire Sonic catalog. This is not only my favorite 3D Sonic game but this is my absolute favorite Sonic Game so far in my life. I played this game religiously as a kid, played through story mode dozens of times even from the start, completed all level missions and went into the Chao Garden until I finally moved on to other games in my teen years. Sonic Adventure 2 was the peak Sonic game before the uncanny valley of the franchise was hit thanks to Sonic ‘06, but at least it got back up thanks to Sonic Mania from what I heard. Highly recommend playing this game if you haven't. It's actually available for almost every console including PC. In fact, Go buy it.
