1/5 ★ – RawMetal's review of Warface.

System: Xbox 360 Started: May 16, 2014 Ended: June 19, 2014 Flashback Review My brother and I wanted to play something new for our multiplayer/co-op adventures. We scour through the Xbox Live Marketplace in search of a multiplayer and cooperative shooter, and we found this game called Warface. This game is free to play, so we downloaded it and gave it a shot. Unfortunately, my entire experience was disappointing. For literally playing this game for a month, I was expected to have updates to make the game play better, but there were none. It was one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. I mean, it's one of those things that's free, so I'm not expecting it to be a 4–5-star game like the next Call of Duty, Counter Strike, or Battlefield. However, I remember that I played a free-to-play game like Combat Arms for a little bit, and that game was miles better than this. Warface is a military shooter that can play mainly two modes: a multiplayer mode featuring classic Team Deathmatch and Domination modes, and a co-op mission mode where players work together to complete an objective while facing an onslaught of enemies. What really strikes me was that Warface is made by the same development team that made the original Far Cry and Crisis at the time. I would consider this game to be Crytek's experimental phase before they nailed this concept down with Hunt Showdown, which was released years later. Hunt Showdown has similar features as Warface with in-game currency and microtransactions, except it plays and looks better. The one upside to Warface is that it's free to play, so I did not waste a single penny playing this. This game leans heavily on microtransactions for upgrades and cosmetics, similar to the controversy of EA's Star Wars Battlefront II as it takes a long time to grind for in-game currency for good gear. My first reaction was how dated the graphics were even when this game was released. This came out late in the seventh generation of game consoles, and this looks like a game that came out in 2008. The game's generic for its military look and fails to identify itself. And your character avatars look and feel stiff for movement, especially during gunfire. Cooperative mode was the reason I had to stop playing. It's one of those games that you must have a good team and be willing to play diligently, or else you will fail on the mission. Most of the enemies are bullet sponges, and it will take forever to kill them unless you purchase good weapons and armor via microtransactions in order to win. Which was why I kept dying a lot with only the basic weapons and gear. To this day, by far, Warface sits at the very bottom of my all-time game rankings. I'm surprised to know that it's still supported by Crytek in 2024, has undergone some improvements, and has been rebranded as Warface: Clutch. I have looked into this game by clips, and the game. still looks stiff, but the gameplay has improved only slightly. With the release of ‘Clutch’, the vanilla version of Warface has become obsolete. So the new version might be worth a try, but I'd suggest investing your time in a different military shooter.
