Flashback Review
Aside from playing TMNT: Turtles in Time arcade at Nickel, Nickel, another game I remember playing for free was X-Men, the iconic game where 6 players can join in and I thought that was awesome. However, I only got to play the 4- player arcade version. At least I can’t complain since it was free play therefore, unlimited continues.
The iconic arcade where Magneto says, “Welcome to Die!”. You get to play as Cyclops, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Dazzler. As far as my memory goes, I remember picking Cyclops since he has the laser beam and its long range. Looking back, I would’ve played as either Colossus or Wolverine If I played it again and My bro was playing either Wolverine or Nightcrawler at the time. The story is basic: stopping Magneto and his Sentinels from taking over the world. It has that Comic Book look in the 90’s too which it perfects the aesthetic of bringing comic books to a video game. You get to fight other Mutants like Pyro, Juggernaut and White Queen along the way
A great beat 'em up and it's a pretty short one though but if you have at least 4-6 of your friends, you are gonna have a great time. Each character has their own abilities and I thought it's a great roster since you might have your friends and siblings fighting over who wants to play as. Fun fact as a kid, I always mistook Dazzler as Jubilee after growing up watching both the 90’s X-Men show and X-Men Evolution. Especially the X-Men Movies in the 00’s.
Sadly you cannot get these games digitally on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era due to contract expiration. So emulation, local arcade, or buying the 1Up Arcade cabinet is the way to go. I have seen the 6 player arcade cabinet not too long ago but it requires tokens to play it though. But if you see it, got money to spend for arcade credits or find a free play cabinet. Go play it and hopefully you have friends with you to get the full experience.
