4/5 ★ – ReggieBenGames's review of Metroid Prime Remastered.

Metroid Prime Remastered was an absolute blast, I loved so much about this game, the shooting on the twin stick control scheme was so satisfying, the enhanced graphics bringing new charm to the original, there is just so much attention to detail; like the small droplets that fall onto Samus’ blaster as she wanders through the Tallon Overworld, or being able to see her skeleton when using the X-Ray Visor, it was all just beautiful. And of course the soundtrack was amazing, Metroid as a series is about discovery and exploration, and the soundtrack for Prime was the cherry on top that amplifies the sense of being lost in a new and dangerous area. I’m a big advocate for remasters to must have the ability to fix problems that the original game would have, and while Metroid Prime Remastered has a few improvements, there’s a lot more it could’ve done to make the game a whole lot better. For starters, auto saving. I get that with the save station system, an auto saving feature would kind of just defeat the purpose of them, but with how scarce the save stations are, it makes trudging through difficult areas all the more frustrating when you die and lose a shit load of progress, in my opinion they should’ve at least made the game auto save whenever you entered a transport room or gained a new item, that way there’s less risk of having to getting all of the things you worked so hard on getting back. Speaking of transport, I believe there should’ve been at least some kind of fast travel system too, at least fast travelling between different save points in a certain area because, for the same reason, when you’re needing to save the game, it makes it harder to do so without potentially losing all of your progress. But despite those little issues, I had an amazing time with this game, I love seeing the progression via samus’ weapon load out and suit, the boss fights were very interesting and had unique mechanics to defeat each (although the omega pirate boss fight was bullshit) and the overall ambience of the game gave me that burst of nostalgia of the GameCube era. My only hope is that they remaster both Metroid Prime 2 & 3 in time for Metroid Prime 4’s inevitable release.
