4/5 ★ – ReverieVagabond's review of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey.

When it comes to remakes, a lot of people get angry because they get a product that isn't like the one they experienced when they were younger, even when the game itself is pretty much the exact same at its core. While it's been many, many years since I last played Bowser's Inside Story on the DS, I can say that this remake is pretty good. I don't know of any major changes other than a minigame that required the mic being altered to use button controls, which is great. So if you're looking at the reviews to try and decide which version to play: play this one. It's easily the version with the best presentation and the changes from the original won't ruin the experience. As for the actual game itself, I still have some issues. The pacing of the story is a little odd and, as my friends are probably sick of hearing from me by now, the battles just drag on. Some battles can take around 30 minutes and even longer if you mess up. Is this a skill issue? Probably. Still doesn't make it any less infuriating when you have to watch a bug spin on a rope for 30 seconds to prevent it from changing into a larger bug immediately so you can do a bunch of extra damage to defeat it in a timely manner. There's also some area in the late game that doesn't really need to be there. I personally feel it just sort of killed some of the hype leading up to the final battle, since it felt like a random detour into an ice area with a touch screen mechanic that just hardly functioned. Outside of that, great game. I wish I could get sucked up by Bowser in real life
