4.5/5 ★ – RoboRev's review of Pikmin 4.
As I get on in years, I am noticing just how much I appreciate simple pick-up-and-play games and how much higher I end rating them as a result.
Pikmin 4 is just such a game and somehow after 4 iterations, this game tops the series as the best it has to offer. Nintendo has been slowly polishing the gameplay with more and more quality of life improvements making Pikmin 4 the smoothest in the series. They added a new couple new game types called Dandori which somehow edged its way to becoming my favourite part of this game, but frankly, everything about this game is great. I never felt like I was wasting a day due to a lack of things to do. With all the Pikmin from across all the games back for action, you can fight enemies, find treasure, explore caves, take on a challenger in battle Dandori, perfect party management with time trial Dandori, protect the point in the new nighttime levels with the glow Pikmin, level up you and your pup Oachi, complete side quests, this game really does have it all.
The music and graphics present a cute but dangerous world that is easy to get immersed into.
The amount of content packed into this game is kind of remarkable. I can honestly say, even though at some points it felt like this game was never going to end, I almost wish it didn’t. This game isn’t particularly hard (barring a few Dandori levels…), but I think that’s why I love it so much, nothing felt like it was unobtainable. Everytime you sit down to play this game, you leave feeling satisfied at what you have accomplished.
Talking about it in this review, I already want to start a new file…
