3.5/5 ★ – RoseFNV's review of Atlas Fallen.
Normally don't like the phrase "feels like an Xbox 360 game" cause of how overused and often it's used wrongly but that really does fit this game to a T. It's open world but still not overwhelming on content (feels very similar in scope and structure to AC2), the story is still thought out well enough and carefully delivered upon while also very clearly not being the focus, and there's just an insistence on fun and customizability to its central loop that feels so old fashioned in the best way. Do wish the story itself was better and certain progression systems were changed, as right now the former is a bit too dull for its ideas to take hold and the latter a bit too overflowing with useless abilities and restrictive upgrades, but as a whole I really enjoyed this so much more than I expected. The combat was fresh and fun and had a really great sense of scale especially as battles progressed, the world is gorgeous to explore and the side activities fun are much less excessive than I had feared, and the movement makes going through that world a blast. Just Had an unexpectedly really good time with this one, would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a solid podcast game or turn your brain off actioner that doesn't overstay it's welcome.
