5/5 ★ – RoseFNV's review of ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN.
"The sun will rise again. The wheel does not cease to turn."
Already knew I was gonna really enjoy this one cause my experience with the network test was all I needed to get addicted to that "one more run" feeling, clocking in ten hours in the test alone, and that feeling is only amplified here with the greater variety of bosses and such. There's definitely still some kinks to iron out at the moment, matchmaking with remembrances just straight up isn't functional at this point which can make certain boss oriented progression points through the character questlines a chore as you basically HAVE to do them alone, and as everyone else has stated this is in dire need of crossplay, voice chat and to a lesser extent a duo option.
But despite all of this I absolutely adored the 30-ish hours I spent with this so far and am extremely glad it'll continue to go on as I work through the achievements and just continue to have fun with the game. It's design is extremely smart and addicting, the atmosphere is super unique and somber despite the re-use of ER's world, the class designs are straight up some of the best I've ever played and the way it uses the various characters to almost create a feeling of an RPG party working together towards a goal is something I never expected from fromsoft but am super happy to see present.
And of course, there's also the bosses. Many taken from ER and it's dlc and even past souls games, but all of the night bosses have enough new attacks and mechanics to stay fresh and fun (shout-out the nameless king) and the nightlords themselves are unbelievable. Creatures of pure spectacle that while designed very differently from base elden ring are just as memorable and in a rarity I think I like basically every boss here, and some of them are probably top fromsoft bosses, especially Adel, Calipso and that INSANE final boss. They're all incredible ends to each run that makes winning or losing equally as fun and the promise of getting to recover them definitely helped to create that urge to go again and again.
I'm so glad I picked this up, it's clear I've enjoyed this more than most but for me this attempt from the studio to branch out was completely successful and is easily one of my favorite multiplayer games I've ever played, one I cannot wait to watch evolve and to continue to go back to overtime, it's a stroke of pure genius in design that deserves all of the praise I could think to give it and then some.
