4/5 ★ – Royvlution's review of Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra.

The second and last dlc for sword and shield, the crown tundra was some of the most fun I’ve had in a Pokémon game since gen 6. The Story revolves around the new legendary Calyrex. He was once revered but slowly forgotten. You help him gain his powers back by reuniting him with one of two steeds. His final form is kinda lame, he is just sitting on a horse, but whatever the story was fun and the music was extremely good. The Regi’s make a return with two new ones, Regieleki and Regidraco being introduced. I like these two but when put next to the others they don’t look like they fit in very well. Anyways you get them by going to 3 temples and solving 3 small puzzles to catch Regice, Registeel, and Regirock. Then you get to choose either Regieleki or Regidraco, but you could get both is you had a second profile which is a nice option. Anyways if you can manage to get all 5 in your party at once you can then go catch Regigigas and I gotta say I’m really happy to see this happen. In past generations getting all of the Regi’s was a huge pain in the ass but now it’s pretty streamline and can happen pretty easily. The Swords of justice return and frankly I’m disappointed. You have to track down 50 footprints for each one and then they appear as an overworked spawn. This is sad because they could have easily implemented something similar to the Regi’s but whatever. At the very least once you catch all three you can then go catch Keldeo a once Mythical Pokémon never before available without some kind of event. The Galarian Birds are forms of Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. You first spot them by going to a huge tree and then they get released into the world as a roamer. Overall their designs are fantastic and while they are a pain to track down and encounter I’m ok with this. It makes it much more satisfying in the end. As for all the other legendary Pokémon they return through the Dynamax Adventure. This is... a fun letdown to say the least. I would’ve loved to see each legendary get as much love put into their story as the birds or Regi’s but I understand why they didn’t, because it wouldve made the map feel very tiny if they did. However I still feel like there could’ve been a better explanation besides “oh here they are in this mystery of a cave” it’s lazy and I don’t like it. Shiny odds are through the roof, 1/100 chance for each Pokémon. This is insanely good, so much so that is you were to catch each legendary your likely to see at least one if not more shiny Pokémon, including the legendary them self. Ultra beasts also appear here after you catch all the Regi’s but they have a small explanation at least, that being an ultra wormhole opened up above the cave system. Overall this dlc was a really fun time and while some corners were definitely cut it was really enjoyable going around feeling powerful because you were able to catch all these legendary Pokémon back to back. The map was Huge compared to anything we’ve gotten before and was really cool to explore for the first time. This made the 30 bucks worth it in my opinion and while somethings are still left out, at least it made the game feel much more full.
