5/5 ★ – SPyKeTGB's review of Tunic.
This game is the easiest decision for a 10 out of 10 for me. In many ways it is the opposite of what most games are today in that there is very little hand holding here. To call this a Zelda clone is wildly misinformed, though the inspiration is definitely there. As you progress through the game, it moves further and further into it's own territory as something unique. There is something about being thrust into a world where you are completely lost with no understanding of how the world works, no tutorial, no intro cutscene explaining the backstory, just you and the game world, with all of it's rules and mechanics in place, ready to be experienced through learning about them naturally and organically rather than some precise scripted moment. This is the definition of learning through playing. So much of this game is best experienced blind, so I won't spend too much time about specifics, but there are so many layers to this game, and the longer you play it, the more you realize that this game is much deeper than you might have originally expected it to be. Gameplay, story, environment, music and characters, each of these areas have much more going for them then it appears upon first glance, and I would be doing you a major disservice to go into any more detail than that. Maybe some day I will write a long form "spoilery" review, but this will suffice for now to let you know how I feel about this game. I will finish with this: you will get as much out of this game as you put into it. Do you want a simple hack and slash puzzler with little to no story? It's here for you. Arguably you could play this game to that extent and be none the wiser. Is there also a very deep and involved game here as well? Absolutely. And it is as rewarding as it is deep.
