4/5 ★ – Scooter_Cannon's review of METAL GEAR SOLID - Master Collection Version.
The year is 1998, you just woke up on a Saturday morning, grabbed some of your favorite cereal (Cap'n Crunch), turned on The TV and started your usual run of Saturday morning cartoons. Your dad comes out with an EB games bag.... it can only mean one thing.
He reaches in, pulls out a double stacked PS1 jewel case. You see nothing but a blank white background with bright red lettering on the front. "I got us a new game to play.", he says. Metal Gear Solid.
The Master Collection version of Metal Gear Solid did something I never thought could be done. It reminded me deeply of a time that I cherish so much. These were the times that formed me as a gamer, and I was so happy to be back to playing the game that quickly turned into my favorite franchise of all time.
For people who have played it in the past, everything you would expect to be there is there. The entirety of the MGS campaign is (practically) untouched. There are some minor changes, due to the hardware being updated. But for the most part, it is a wonderful throwback to a simpler time.
For new players, I highly recommend you give this version a chance. There is no better time to get into the MGS series than right now. Especially with the Delta remakes in the work.
I played this on the Nintendo Switch. As I travel alot for work, it was a great way to spend time on flights, in between flights, and hanging out at my hotel room. Honestly, its the best time I've had with my switch in a long time.
I give the Master Collection version of MGS a 4 out of 5.
