3.5/5 ★ – Secondsolution's review of Hogwarts Legacy.

Platform: PS5 Time taken: 20 hours Hogwarts Legacy is the type of game that I have wanted for years. I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan but I appreciate the universe and lore as well as the potential a video game can have in that world. I think in so many ways Hogwarts Legacy lives up to my expectations, but in some key areas it is also a bit if a letdown. I'm going to break down a couple of aspects of the game and my thoughts overall. Combat: Overall combat is done well. You have a basic cast spell (right trigger/R2) as well as some specific spells by holding L2 + a face button. These can be attack focussed like Expelliarmus or more defensive like depulso. You can combine these spells and it works really well. Some enemys have shields and the only way to break them is to use a spell with a colour that matches the shield. It is simple but works quite well. My only gripes with the combat is that on the PS5 i felt like i was going to get RSI in my right pointer finger from having to pull the R2 button so much for the basic cast. Story: This is probably my biggest letdown. The story isn't bad, it is just bland. I never really found myself feeling enthralled in the story or really caring about the characters involved. I will say that the relationship side quests were far more enjoyable and I think worth your time. Mission structures: Overall pretty good and quite a few unique feeling missions. My main annoyance is there is a big reliance on fetch quests and making you go to one location only to have to backtrack again. World: This is by far the best part of Hogwarts Legacy. They nailed the vibe and feel of the Harry Potter universe and particularly in the earlier parts of the game I was in awe of how well they had recreated Hogwarts and Hogsmead. Overall Hogwarts Legacy is a good game with some annoyances. I would definitely welcome a sequel or some DLC (Please give us Quidittch!). I think this is definitely worth playing for anyone that is remotely interested in the Harry Potter world.
