4.5/5 ★ – SeneSnow's review of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

Overall I loved this game. It looked (for the most part) fantastic. The combat was great, and the story was mostly quite good. On the positive side of the story, I felt like a lot of decisions I made really mattered, much more so than the vast majority of RPG’s that I’ve played. A lot of the characters were great, side quests were mostly fun and worthwhile, and there were some genuinely funny moments which I really appreciated. On the negative side though, what was that ending? I still have the cult to end and maybe that will be a more rewarding end, but the main storyline ending was very lackluster and anticlimactic. Felt like they ran out of time, money, or both. A very unfortunate blemish on an otherwise fantastic game. Gameplay was overall really great. The abilities, the stealth, the war areas, they were all really fun. I do think the game overstayed its welcome a bit, and a few hours probably could’ve been cut with some fetch quests and things that just felt like filler in a game that did not at all require it. Ship combat was fun enough, though I didn’t engage with that all too much. Overall had a great time with my 50 or so hours with this game. Really unfortunate that the ending to the main story was so anticlimactic, especially after Origins which I felt like had a pretty great ending that felt epic. This game surprised me when it ended, I thought for sure there would be a big battle or story moment with all the characters I had met, but alas that didn’t ruin the rest of the game by any means. As of now this is my favorite AC game I’ve played and I’m looking forward to playing the DLC and finishing up some things from the base game. Update: After finishing up the rest of the base game quests with the cultists and Atlantis, I can confirm they didn't give a much more satisfying ending unfortunately. I will also say, I like the music in this game quite a bit but at times it feels very underutilized. Especially in these final quests ending these very long quest lines there were cutscenes/dialogue sequences with basically no music which certainty didn't help with their anticlimatic feeling.
